Trim Celtic 3 – 2 Courtown Hibs

Despite Navan Cosmos and Albion Rovers being reported as the only two Meath & District League teams left in the FAI Junior Cup, Trim Celtic progressed to the 5th Round with a hard fought win against Wexford side Courtown Hibs at the MDL. Celtic took the lead inside fifteen minutes when Mark Scanlon and Craig O’Hanlon combined well to set up David Conway to score from 6 yards with a diving header. Courtown replied with a header from a corner to level the game.
In the second half Trim Celtic came out of the blocks strongly and were soon ahead. A superb run and pass by Paul Campbell set David Conway through on goal, but he was fouled by a covering defender in the box and Campbell stepped up to score the resultant penalty. However Courtown didn’t lie down
and scored with a superb breakaway goal to level the match again. From the tip off Shane Ashe spotted the keeper off his line and was unlucky to see his superb effort come back off the post. With Courtown having a man sent off Celtic took the lead when Shane Ashe headed down to David Conway who
volleyed home in off the post. With minutes remaining David Conway looked to have got his hattrick when he tapped home Paul Rispin’s cross but he was denied by a whistle for offside.

Best for Trim Celtic were Dominic Martin, Paul Campbell and Keith Jones
