Trim Celtic 1 – 2 Glenmuir Utd
Halftime: 1 – 2
Trim Celtic scorer: Paul Campbell
Trim Celtic suffered their fist defeat of the season at the hands of Glenmuir. The Dundalk side started brightly and took the lead when a shot came back of the crossbar and was finished from close range. Celtic came close when David Conway’s header cleared was cleared off the line. Celtic equalised soon after when Shane Ashe broke clear and squared the ball to allow Paul Campbell to tap home. Celtic then lost captain Dominic Martin to a facial injury and conceded another long after as a Glenmuir player was allowed in to slot past keeper Barry O’Callaghan. As the half Celtic were awarded numerous free kicks on the edge of the box and from one such occasion almost drew level as David Conway headed narrowly wide from Paul Campbell’s cross.
Against the wind in the second half Celtic piled on the pressure onto the Glenmuir defence without actually troubling the keeper. Paul Campbell and Shane Ashe both had long-range shots that went narrowly wide. Late on Ashe had a valid penalty claim turned down as he ran at the Glenmuir defence into the box. In stoppage time Celtic’s David Fagan hit the inside of the post with a snap shot from the edge of the box.
Best for Trim Celtic were Dermot Bartley, David Fagan and Keith Jones
