Two of Meaths top sides met at Claremount Stadium Navan on Thursday night in a pre-season friendly and it was Lenstier Senior League side Parkvilla who forced the early pace and took the lead through a Barry Finnegan header after 20 minutes but Celtic settled into the game after that and a Shane Ashe flick on from a Barry O’Callaghan kickout set up Noel Payne who finished superbly with a left footed volley from 25 yards, the sides went in level at the break. In the second period both sides battled hard to search for the winner but some resoulte defending meant the two goalkeepers were rarely tested, Celtic introduced Ciaran Mulvenna with 25 minutes left for his debut and Shane Ashe was a constant menace up front but it was Noel Payne who grabbed the winning goal and his second of the game with 15 minutes remaining to keep up Celtics unbeaten record in pre-season. Best for Trim were Shane Ashe and Noel Payne.
