Trim Celtic Flag Day

Trim Celtic Club Chairman Ciaran Gaughran, has expressed his gratitude to everyone who supported the Club’s recent flag-day collection.

“We have always been aware of our role in this area as a committed community Club and the huge level of support to our flag-day was an endorsement of that position. The people of Trim and the surrounding area continue to recognise our efforts with their generous support. The success of the collection will enable us to prepare with confidence for the new season, during which we intend to field as many as seventeen teams in local leagues -the highest ever by the Club. I would like to say a sincere ‘Thank You’ to every one who donated.”

Pre-Season Friendly - Peamount Utd 0 - 2 Trim Celtic

Peamount Utd 0 - 2 Trim Celtic

Halftime: 0 - 1

Trim Celtic Scorers: David Conway, Brian Quinn.

For the second year in a row Trim Celtic visited Newcastle In Dublin to play Leinster Senior League side Peamount Utd. Similar to last year it was Celtic who won a very competitive match played in ideal conditions. The superb condition of the pitch helped the contest flow and it was Trim Celtic who took the lead inside the first ten minutes. Noel Payne delivered a superb free kick, which encouraged the goalkeeper to come off his line, however David Conway got to the ball first to head home. Peamount controlled possession well but with could not find a telling pass such was the work rate of the Celtic midfield and defence. Shane Ashe troubled the Peamount defence on many occasions and but for some soft free kicks awarded against him the striker could have had many more chances. The quality of cross put in by the Celtic wingers and full backs was exceptional but credit must go to the home defence who dealt well with most of them.

In the second half Peamount pushed forward more but David Fagan and Noel Payne tackled superbly to retrieve the ball. On the rare occasion that centre halves Dermot Bartley and Dominic Martin were beaten Damien Dempsey made some superb last man tackles as Peamount searched for a goal. Shane Ashe again troubled the home defence with a solo run and shot, as did Brian Quinn. It was the latter who doubled Celtic’s lead as he intercepted a defensive pass to slot home into the bottom corner. Celtic almost scored a third when Ciaran Rispin and Quinn combined well on the right with David Conway heading just over from Quinn’s perfect centre. Keeper Barry O’Callaghan had a very successful afternoon keeping a clean sheet, dealing with several tricky crosses and making two fine saves, the second from a quickly taken free kick that looked to have beaten the big keeper until he raced across the goal and stretched an arm to tip it onto the bar. The game finished at 2 - 0 with every player contributing to a solid win.

Best for Trim Celtic were David Fagan, Dermot Bartley and Noel Payne

Trim Celtic: Barry O’Callaghan, Ciaran Rispin, Dermot Bartley, Dominic Martin, Damien Dempsey, Stephen Jones, Noel Payne, David Fagan, David Conway, Shane Ashe, Mark Scanlon.
