Result: Trim Celtic 1-2 Kells/Blackwater
Halftime: Trim Celtic 1-0 Kells/Blackwater
Scorer for Trim: Donal Callan
Trim Celtic U14s lost three valuable points in the race for the league title today at Tully Park & for the second time this season, it was at the hands of Kells/Blackwater. Once Trim got going, they were playing the ball around very nicely but failed to find the net. After twenty four minutes, the first goal of the game came after great build-up play. The ball started out on the left, was switched into Robert Sweeney in midfield & then onto Mark Leavy on the right wing. Mark skipped by a Kells defender & crossed in a superb ball for Donal Callan who met it with a great header into the opposite corner of the net. That should have set Trim up & they were unlucky not to go into half time two goals up, but for a fantastic save from the Kells keeper. The second half started brightly but in the space of seven minutes, two mistakes in the Trim defence resulted in Kells winning the game. Trim attacked for the remainder of the game in search of an equaliser but some resolute defending from Kells & some agonisingly close shots meant Trim were not to rescue the game. Best for Trim on the day were Karl Reilly, Mark Leavy and Donal Callan.

Result: Enfield 0-6 Trim Celtic
Halftime: Enfield 0-3 Trim Celtic
Scorers for Trim: Donal Callan (2), Mark Little, Robert Sweeney, Karl Reilly, Lee Dixon
On a great day for football, Trim Celtic U14s went to Enfield & ran out comfortable winners in this league match. On a difficult playing surface, they took the game to Enfield & had the opposition pinned into their own half for large periods of the game. Trim were content to shoot from distance early on to test the Enfield keeper. The first goal came after thirteen minutes when a neat pass from Sam Millen found Mark Little on the edge of the box & he fired home well. Four minutes later Trim were two up when Robert Sweeney moved onto his left in the box & finished well from fifteen yards out. Trim went into half time three up after Karl Reilly lobbed the Enfield keeper after a Rian Wogan pass found him. The second half was similar to the first half but Enfield did have a 10 minute spell where they enjoyed good possession. After coming on in the second half, Donal Callan scored two fine goals, one coming after a great solo run down the left. These goals were either side of a great header from Lee Dixon from an in swinging corner from Joey Corrigan. All in all, a good performance from Trim with Lee Dixon, Robert Sweeney & Donal Callan doing particularly well.

Result: Trim Celtic 3-2 Kells/Blackwater
Halftime: Trim Celtic 2-0 Kells/Blackwater
Scorers for Trim: Mark Little (2), Donal Callan
Trim Celtic U14s advanced to the second round of the NECSL Cup with a hard-earned but well deserved win over Kells/Blackwater at Tully Park. From the start, Trim took the game to Kells & strung together some very creative moves, especially down the wings. Trim went close on a number of occasions & the breakthrough came after twenty two minutes when Rian Wogan floated in a great ball to Mark Little who remained composed & slotted home well. Within 10 minutes Trim were 2-0 up with a carbon copy of the first goal; Rian Wogan crossing in for Mark Little to finish a good move off. In the second half Trim again attacked well although Kells were causing the defence one or two problems. Trim were nearly 3-0 up when a well-worked move down the right ended when Fionn Nally crossed to find Rian Wogan unmarked but he could not get the ball down with his header. Kells pulled a goal back when Trim didn’t compete for a corner. Trim held their nerve & continued to play attractive football & struck next when after 50 minutes, Lee Dixon crossed in from the right & Donal Callan was on hand to tap the ball home. This should have killed the game off but Kells continued to attack & were rewarded with a goal two minutes from time. Overall this was a very well deserved win against a strong team with Trim playing some very attractive football. Trim dictated the game in midfield with Robert Sweeney & Karl Reilly dominating; Gavin Mullen was commanding in the back line while Rian Wogan’s service to the front pair of Mark Little & Donal Callan paid off.

Result: Trim Celtic 0-0 Monaghan Utd (AET) – lost 3-4 on penalties
Halftime: Trim Celtic 0-0 Monaghan Utd.
The old story of no team deserving to lose was never so true as Trim Celtic U14s agonisingly went out of the SFAI Cup to Monaghan United on penalties at the MDL Grounds. In what were difficult, blustery conditions, both teams served up an exciting and skilful game of football but after 90 minutes of play, neither could break the deadlock. Trim started with the breeze & took the game to Monaghan, having most of the chances with Mark Little going close on occasion. Towards the end of the half, Monaghan then started to create chances & but for some outstanding saves by Sean Spratt in goal, would have gone into the break in front. In the second half, Monaghan had wind advantage & were a constant threat from their main striker, James Clarke. However he was never allowed to get any real shots on goal due to the great performances in the back line of Gavin Mullen, Fionn Nally, Lee Dixon and especially the remarkable tackling of Joan Lehmann. Trim had their chances also, creating great build-up play & going close on a number of occasions. In extra time both teams had opportunities with Karl Reilly & Donal Callan both going wide for Trim & Sam Millen’s volley being well saved. Then came the penalties & the contest turned backwards & forwards. After going behind early, Sean Spratt performed heroics to save two penalties & it came down to sudden death. This was a great performace all round with creative work from Joey Corrigan & Mark Leavy on the wings; constant threats from Mark Little, Rian Wogan, Donal Callan & Sam Millen up front; the hard work from Robert Sweeney & Karl Reilly in the middle & the great work in the back line with Joan Lehmann & Sean Spratt shining out.

Halftime: Walshestown 0-2 Trim Celtic
Scorers for Trim: Mark Little, Donal Callan
Celtic U14s advanced to the next round of the SFAI Cup with this tough but well-deserved win over Washestown from the Dundalk league. From the start, Trim attacked & saw a number of shots go wide or saved by the keeper. After eighteen minutes Donal Callan found Mark Little with a great ball; he turned & finished very well to put Trim one up. Two minutes later, the roles were reversed when some excellent work on the right ended in Mark Little crossing for Donal Callan to put the ball away. Trim continued to take the game to Walshestown but failed to add to their lead. In the second half Walshestown upped their game & battled harder but the Trim back line was solid, so much so that Walshestown did not have a shot on goal from open play. Trim continued to look for the third goal & came close on a couple of occasions; one a rasping shot off the post from Donal Callan; the other a header from Gavin Mullen that was disallowed as he rose to head. Overall, another accomplished win with fine performances all over the field, including the centre back pairing of Gavin Mullen & Karl Reilly, Joey Corrigan & Lee Dixon in midfield & the forward pairing of Mark Little & Donal Callan. Scorers for Trim: Rian Wogan, Donal Callan
Trim Celtic U14s travelled to Kingscourt on a cold & wet morning but came away with three valuable league points to put them five points clear at the top of the table. Trim started with the breeze & put Kingscourt under pressure with some lovely moves especially down the left with Sean FitzGerald, Joey Corrigan & Rian Wogan combining well. Kingscourt were always dangerous with their direct approach & the Trim back line had to be constantly alert. After 20 minutes, Trim got the breakthrough when a well worked corner between Mark Little & Joey Corrigan was floated in for Rian Wogan to head home. Trim continued to press & were unlucky not to get their second especially after a great save by the Kingscourt keeper from Mark Little. In a rainy & windy second half Kingscourt came at Trim & it required some resolute defending. Ten minutes after the break Kingscourt got an equaliser when a mix up in the Trim box resulted in a clearance hitting off a Trim defender & rebounding over the line. It was always going to be hard work to get the winner but Trim continued to press & created some half chances until Donal Callan did some superb closing down & his work paid off when he was on hand to take advantage of another cleared ball. Kingscourt continued to press for their second equaliser & might have got it but for some fine goalkeeping by Sean Spratt. On a tough but rewarding day, Trim had fine displays from Fionn Nally, Joey Corrigan, Rian Wogan & Donal Callan.

Halftime: Carrick Rovers 0-2 Trim Celtic
Scorers for Trim: Mark Little (3), Lee Dixon, Fionn Nally
Celtic’s U14s travelled to Carrickmacross with a depleted squad & turned in a fine display of attacking football to beat a strong & organised Carrick Rovers team 5-2. Missing their regular goalkeeper, two central defenders & two strikers, Trim adapted well early on & took the game to Carrick. Within ten minutes, they were one up when Robert Sweeney sent over a fine cross-field ball for Lee Dixon who finished well. Trim dominated most of the half but had few chances to add to their lead. Karl Reilly nearly put Trim two up after firing a rasping free kick from 45 yards out but it was well saved by the keeper. ersistence paid off just before half time when Fionn Nally sidestepped a defender & shot past the Carrick keeper to give Trim a 2-0 lead. Within a minute of the re-start, Trim were cruising when Mark Little turned three defenders & finished off very well. This seemed to spark Carrick into life & they then enjoyed their best spell of the game. Through hard work they got one goal back & then forced a number of fine saves from David Harmon, one a superb parry onto the bar to maintain the two goal lead. Almost immediately, Trim attacked & Mark Little grabbed his second with another great finish. Carrick then got a fortuitous goal to keep them in the game but it was over a few minutes later when Mark Little scored another fine goal to complete his hat-trick. With only 12 men on the day, Trim worked tirelessly with Lee Dixon covering tremendous ground. Trim continued were they left off last weekend with another fine display, this time in the SFAI Cup. After creating a number of early chances Trim began to dominate & opened the scoring after a great move on the left wing that ended with Donal Callan squaring for Mark Little to tap-in. The second goal was again created on the left with a pin-point cross from Joey Corrigan setting up Donal Callan for his first of the game. At this point Trim looked dangerous with every attack & the delivery from wide areas was particularly impressive. The third goal arrived after twenty five minutes & this time it was Little setting up Callan to score from six yards. The fourth goal finished the game as a contest & it came courtesy of Little, bringing his tally to five goals in two games for the club. Trim Celtic U14s produced a fine display of attacking football in this league game, putting seven goals away in the process. From the off, Trim attacked the Albion defence & had a number of close chances before Mark Little scored his first goal for the club after six minutes. Despite the domination in midfield by Robert Sweeney & Karl Reilly and the number of chances on goal, it took 25 minutes before Trim got their second. In the second half, Trim started off at pace again & within eight minutes Mark Little had completed his hat-trick on his full debut when slotting home. Now Trim were passing & creating chances & were making significant advances when Joey Corrigan & Darryl Kelly hooked up together down the left. Trim Celtic U14s suffered their second defeat of the season, going down 3-2 to a determined Kells side after being 2-0 up into the second half. The game started very brightly for Trim passing the ball around creating many chances. However the early chances usually resulted in shots from outside the box which did not troubled the Kells keeper. But Trim kept the tempo up & the pressure paid off after 18 minutes when a Gavin Mullen corner floated into the box & Robert Sweeney was on hand to stab the ball away. Trim continued to attack but were caught out once or twice by quick Kells breakaways with one break resulting in a shot against the woodwork. The second half was only a minute old when Joan Lehmann rose to another corner & the ball came down on the line only to hit a Kells player and go in. The game should have been over then but a free-kick on the edge of the Trim box curled into the corner to bring Kells back into the game. Rather than taking the game to Kells Trim then allowed the opposition back take the initiave & Kells’ direct approach was rewarded with an equaliser with 15 minutes to go. Kells scored a third soon after to win the game & Trim never really created the chances to get back into the game. Result: Kentstown 0-2 Trim Celtic
Halftime: Kentstown 0-1 Trim Celtic
Scorers for Trim: Rian Wogan, Donal Callan.
Trim Celtic U14s bounced back from their disappointment of last week by defeating their arch rivals Kentstown. This was a game that was largely dominated by Trim and they showed good character and composure to secure the result. The first half was a fairly quiet affair with Trim having much of the possession but not being able to create many clear cut chances. Kentstown attacks were well taken care of by the defence of Sean FitzGerald, Joan Lehmann, Gavin Mullen and Fionn Nally. The game came to life after 31 minutes when Joan Lehmann floated a free kick into the box & Rian Wogan was quickest to react to the loose ball and bundled it over the line for Trim to go in 1-0 at half time. In the second half, some injuries in the Kentstown team made it difficult for them to hold Trim at bay & Trim had a few more chances. But Kentstown never gave up and but for a terrific save from Sean Spratt after a Conor Sheridan volley, the end result may have been different. It took until the 62nd minute for Trim to double the lead when Lee Dixon put Donal Callan through on goal and he finished very well. A good all round performance with Sean Spratt having a great performance in goal and Gavin Mullen and Robert Sweeney doing well outfield.

Result: Trim Celtic 2-3 Bailieboro

Scorers for Trim: Gavin Mullen, Lee Dixon
After controlling a game for long periods and having been 2-0 up, Trim Celtic conceded 3 goals in less than 6 minutes late in the second half to lose this game to a determined Bailieboro side. Playing against the breeze in the first half, Trim took the game to Bailieboro and created a few chances but failed to break down a very stubborn Bailieboro defence. Trim went in 0-0 at half time but came out far more determined in the second half. They started to play the ball around and after 10 minutes the decision to push Gavin Mullen up front paid off immediately when he latched onto a ball into the box to finish with a fine header. Ten minutes later Trim were 2-0 up and in command when Lee Dixon struck the ball first time to finish a Joey Corrigan corner. It looked all over at that stage but a lapse in defence allowed Bailieboro back into the game. They took heart from this and attacked Trim looking for the equaliser. A few defensive lapses allowed Bailieboro in for two more goals. Despite the loss there were good performances throughout the team with Gavin Mullen, Sean McGee and Lee Dixon doing well on his debut.

The game should have been over at half time but for some poor concentration in the Trim team. After 12 minutes, one of Trim’s first moves resulted in a penalty being awarded when Robert Sweeney ran at goal after receiving a fine cross field ball from Karl Reilly. Robert was taken down in the box and got up to put Trim one up. On 29 mins Darryl Kelly put a fine ball through for Donal Callan who took the ball around the keeper to score his first goal for Trim. Two minutes later, it looked all over when Karl Reilly broke through the Athboy defence and put Trim 3-0. However, Athboy were back in the game when a penalty was awarded against Trim. In the second half, injuries forced a couple of substitutions and Trim never really dominated as they did in the first half. A second goal was conceded five minutes into the half to set up a tense final few minutes but Trim’s defence held well to register their first win. There were some good performances over the pitch with Darryl Kelly, Fionn Nally and Joey Corrigan doing well on the day.
